Word of the Chair
Dear IPEC Europe Members,
"Looking back, moving forward" was the motto of IPEC Europe’s 20th anniversary which was celebrated last week in Barcelona. We started on 25 January 2012 with the launch event of the EXCiPACT GMP and GDP certification system, which was attended by more than 150 representatives from industry , academia and regulators. It was gratifying to witness the recognition of the scheme and its value in the management of excipients and their supply chain. More information on the event is available here.
The following day, IPEC Europe’s annual seminar was held covering hot topics from regulation and science. This was followed by a gala dinner with an opportunity to review achievements over the past 20 years through the IPEC Europe award ceremony honoring outstanding contribution by members since foundation of the association. There will be more information published about these events in the next edition of Excipients Insight.
Our Annual General Meeting took place on 27 January, and a review of the activities of IPEC Europe committees can be read in this issue. The election of several IPEC Europe board positions took place, and because three current board members did not stand for re-election we welcome some “new faces” who will soon be introduced to you in detail here and on our website.
The composition of the new Board is:
Hubertus Folttmann (BASF, Secretary)
Frithjof Holtz (Merck Millipore, Vice Chair)
Michele Mazzanti (Lilly Italia)
Frank Milek (Hedinger, Chair)
Sergio Neves (Roquette, Treasurer)
Steve Porter (AstraZeneca)
Beam Suffolk (Dow Europe)
As the new elected Chair of IPEC Europe I would like to briefly introduce myself. I am an industrial pharmacist and have been employed for 17 years by Hedinger, a distributor and repacker of pharmaceutical excipients based in Germany. My role there is Director of GMP & SHEQ operations. For the past 15 years I have been contributing to the IPEC Europe GDP committee, most of the time as its chair.
As chair of IPEC Europe I am motivated to intensify my contribution to IPEC Europe and its mission. There are lots of challenges in front of our association in the world of pharmaceutical excipients, especially new and ever-changing regulation as well as the need for increased global cooperation at the IPEC Federation level with our sister associations in the US, Japan and China.
Our agenda over the next years should reflect our members priorities. Therefore, we shall follow the results of the IPEC Europe membership survey which was conducted last year. Please do not hesitate to approach the Board directly should you wish to actively participate in the direction of our association. The success of IPEC Europe is the sum of the contribution of all its members. Therefore, we greatly appreciate any help from you and your companies.
