Word of the Chair

Dear IPEC Europe Members,

During the first quarter of 2012 some interesting topics on the regulatory scene could be identified. EDQM held a conference on CEP procedure in Larnaca, EMA set up a scientific coordination board, and FDA has recommended that pharmaceutical manufacturers do not use two phthalates as excipients. Furthermore, there has been a severe problem with contaminated gelatin capsules in China, and Brazil is to tighten standards for gelatin production. Beside that you will find updates on EXCiPACT and Rx-360 in this issue of Excipients Insight.

I am also delighted to announce that the IPEC Europe GDP Committee has a new chair since 17 April. Dr. Eckart Krämer (SE Tylose) took over this role and will be supported by Dr. Andreas Lekebusch (Biesterfeld Spezialchemie) as vice-chair. We wish both of them good luck and IPEC Europe great achievements in the area of excipient supply chain security.

Please read more about all these topics in our April issue of Excipients Insight.

Thanks for continuing to support IPEC Europe and kind regards,

Frank Milek
(Chair to the IPEC Europe Board)
